Allusions are references and homages to other media, such as movies or TV shows. Like most TV series, Team Umizoomi has quite a few allusions. This page contains all of the allusions when they are found in episodes.
NOTES:
- If a character reminds you of a character from a different series, it is not an allusion; it's a coincidence
- Episodes like Movie Madness! have their own section since it has more allusions than any other episode.
Season 1[]
- The episode title, The Wild West Toy Train Show is a reference to "The Wild West Show", an old rodeo show.
- In The Butterfly Dance Show, when Milli changes Sophia into her butterfly costume, it is a reference to the 1950 movie, as well as the fairy tale, "Cinderella", where The Fairy Godmother changes the title character into her ball gown.
- In Santa's Little Fixers, Santa has a phone called a "Cranberry," which is a spoof of a phone company called "Blackberry."
Season 2[]
- The space ride from Day at the Museum is based on Disneyland and Disney World's Space Mountain and Star Tours.
- In Crazy Skates, the red skates that Bot puts on by accident is a reference to the fairy tale story of The Red Shoes.
- In Milli Saves The Day, as Milli swings on the vine over the prickly thorns, she does the Tarzan yell.
- In Umi Toy Store, the small light on Sparkle-Pup is similar to the Flashlight Friends stuffed animals.
Season 3[]
- In Cuckoo Bears, The Purple Cuckoo Bear says "Get ready to clock and roll!" which is a play on the music genre, "rock and roll".
- In the carnival scene of Team Umizoomi VS. The Shape Bandit, there is a hippo plushie that slightly resembles Tasha from The Backyardigans.
- In Shooting Star!, the horse Shooting Star has a star on his flank, which is similar to Cutie Marks from My Little Pony.
- In Animal School House, Geo says "Silly animals. They don't belong in school, school is for kids!" which is a reference to Trix cereal. It has an iconic slogan that is used in commercials where at the end of the commercial, the kids say "Silly Rabbit, Trix are for kids!".
Boardwalk Games![]
- There are quite a few references to iconic arcade games in the Video Games song.
- The Space Defenders game is a reference to Space Invaders.
- The section with Bot opening his mouth to eat foods is a reference to Pac-Man.
- The section with the team jumping up and down a pyramid of logs is a reference to Q*bert.
- The section where the team cross a river by hopping on logs is a reference to Frogger.
- The section with Milli and Geo controlling a paddle to bounce fruit is a reference to Pong.
- The section with Milli and Geo collecting burger ingredients falling from the sky is similar to a Lilo and Stitch flash game, "625 Sandwich Stacker". However, that game has sandwich ingredients instead of burger ones.
- It is also similar to a minigame in the SpongeBob SquarePants game "Lights, Camera, Pants!" for the Game Boy Advance.
Haircut Hijinx[]
- In the It's Your Hair song, there are several references using different types of hair.
- Spiky hair features a porcupine that looks similar to Sonic the Hedgehog.
- The photo with Bot in a trench coat holding a magnifying glass looks similar to Sherlock Holmes.
- The photo with the team in space is directly referencing Star Wars, with Milli as Princess Leia, Geo as Luke Skywalker, and Bot as Chewbacca. There is also the Death Star in the background.
- (Spoilers for the Star Wars Original Trilogy) This reference works well, as both Luke & Leia and Geo & Milli are brother and sister duos.
- Bot's lyric of "Can I get a witness?" is referencing the song of the same name, 'Can I Get a Witness', a song by Marvin Gaye.
- When Bot rides the 2nd UmiDollar like a carpet, the Arabian riff, also known as The Streets of Cairo, plays.
Season 4[]
- In The Boy with the Dragon Skateboard, the team's yellow submarine and their song about it are an allusion to The Beatles' song "Yellow Submarine."
- The title name "The Boy with the Dragon Skateboard" is a play-on of a movie, "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo".
- In Meatball Madness, when Mr. Ape climbs the tall building, it is a reference to the 1933 movie, "King Kong".
Movie Madness![]
- The Super Secret Spy movie is a reference to the James Bond movie series.
Allusions to Team Umizoomi in Other Media[]
- In the crime drama show Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, season 14 episode 16 "Funny Valentine", 2 of the main characters (Olivia Benson and Nick Amaro) are mockingly called Team Umizoomi by Caleb Bryant, a suspect of the episode.
- This reference was acknowledged by the official Team Umizoomi Facebook account, saying "Hey UmiFriends! Anyone catch the Team Umizoomi shout out on Law & Order SVU last week?", with a picture of Team Umizoomi as the Umi Cops standing in front of the Law & Order: SVU cast. [1]
- In order to match the size of the cast, the team were sized up from their usual tiny size to about the size of children.
- Coincidentally, the first voice actor for Milli (Sophia Fox), was a background character in an episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

- In an episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, season 3 episode 174 "Simon Cowell, Lilly Singh, Penn & Teller", season 3 episode 174, Jimmy Fallon and Simon Cowell are having a discussion about kids shows their children usually watch. After talking about Dora the Explorer and how annoyed Simon Cowell is with the series, Jimmy Fallon brings up Team Umizoomi, which he says it's decent, and then sings a section of the theme song and describes the show. Simon is unfamiliar with it, so Jimmy moves to different shows such as Peppa Pig and Sesame Street, which Simon does know. [2]
