The Big Boat Race is the 19th episode of the first season of Team Umizoomi, and the 19th episode overall. It is the Season 1 finale.

Episode Description[]

Sonya can't wait to be in the Umi City Toy Boat Race. But just as the race is about to begin, Sonya's boat begins sailing out of control! The mast breaks, the sail is lost, and her lucky gold star charm sinks to the bottom of the pond! ^[1]

Summary[]

After a little bubble race, the team gets a call from Sonya. Her boat for the Big Boat Race is ruined! The team rushes to the Umi City lake to fix it, find her lucky star, and add a little surprise to get the boat ready so Sonya can still participate in the race.

Synopsis[]

Intro: Bubble Racing[]

The episode begins with a bunch of big pink bubbles transitioning to inside the home of Team Umizoomi, at the Fountain Headquarters. This is because Milli is seen in the lounge blowing bubbles around. She says hello to the viewer(s) and is glad they came to visit them. Geo and Bot are also blowing bubbles of their own team colors in the headquarters, and they have an idea to race their bubbles across the room. They start on one side of the long orange rug, and ends on the other side. On Bot's cue, they all blew the bubbles to the other side of the rug, with a little help from Umi-Friend. They comment on how interesting the race was getting. In the end, the three (3) bubbles crossed the finish line at the same time, meaning there was a tie/draw! The whole team got first place, and the bubbles were popped after the race before the team enjoyed a good laugh.

Broken Boat[]

The UmiAlarm rings on Bot, and he immediately responds to the notification. It turns out that the team's friend, Sonya, is having trouble with her sailboat—it's moving out of control in the pond! She needs the boat for the big race she's participating in later, but it has broken apart. Now, she's relying on Team Umizoomi to help her fix it. They need to get it situated ASAP, or Sonya will have to withdraw from the race. Milli assures her they'll fix the boat and get it back to her before the race begins. Sonya gets her hopes back and starts rooting for the team, whose duty then begins as they set up their Mighty Math Powers by performing the song.

To the Park![]

Team Umizoomi takes the UmiCar all the way to the park where the boat race is being held, and then tries to find the pond where the boats are. They follow some ducks there, and then they find the starting line. Once they get to the shore, they start to look around for Sonya's boat in the lake. Bot shows a picture of it on his belly screen. The boat that the team is looking for is orange on the top, and purple on the bottom. With support from Umi-Friend, they see it floating around aimlessly in the pond. Now, they just have to catch that boat and bring it to shore so the team can repair it.

Speedboat Power[]

The team realizes that Sonya's boat is a little far for them to reach. Therefore, to help with that, Geo uses his Super Shapes to build a speedboat that can give them a speed boost to catch up to the sailboat. Using his blueprint, he builds a super speedboat out of two (2) triangles and a rectangle. He even comments on his love of building stuff with Umi-Friend! Then, the team starts moving by saying "Umizoomi!" As they make their way to the sailboat, Bot checks to see how fast the speedboat should go to catch up with it. When he checks the speed using his Robo-Speed Radar, it reveals that the speed of the speedboat must be forty-five (45) units per hour to get to the sailboat. So Milli checks their speedboat's speedometer, and finds out that the speed is only forty (40). To increase their speed, she relies on Umi-Friend to count from 40 to 45, and then they finally reach Sonya's sailboat! Bot grabs it with his extend-o arms and brings it straight to the shore, completing this part of the team's mission!

Progress Report[]

Now that the team caught Sonya's boat, they give Sonya a call with Bot's belly screen and update her on their progress. She also warns the team that the boat race will be starting soon. Milli promises to come back with the boat fixed and good as new! Sonya thanks the team for their help, and then hangs up. So, Team Umizoomi should now get started fixing the sailboat, and they get to know how it works with the "How Does It Work" song. Bot explains that a sailboat has a mast for keeping the sail steady, and the sail makes the boat move in different directions based on the direction(s) of the wind. Geo and Milli see that both the mast and the sail have been removed from the boat when it broke, meaning they need to make new ones in order to fix it.

Under Sail[]

First, the team needs to make a new sail for the boat so it can sail. Bot checks his Bot-o-Mat, and sees a toothbrush, a rubber ducky, and then he finally sees what to use - a white square-shaped picnic blanket! He thinks it will make a perfect sail. However, before they can put it on the boat, they need to cut it up into triangles so they can use one of the triangles as the sail. Geo helped Bot find out how to cut the sail so it can be a triangle, using Umi-Friend's help. The first dotted line on the viewer's screen makes a vertical cut, which doesn't work since that would make it a rectangle. But then, the dotted line makes a diagonal cut, which does work since that would make it a triangle. Without further ado, Bot cuts the blanket in just that way, and they use one of the triangles as the new sail. Now this part of the team's job is completed!

Measure Me a Mast![]

The sail might have been completed, but it cannot go on the boat just yet; first they need a mast to attach it to. Geo sees something to his left (viewers' right) that can be used. However, Milli can't find him because he's hiding! When Geo pops out from behind a plant, they both enjoy a good laugh, and Geo tells Milli that they can use a bamboo stick for a mast. They just need to find one that's the right size so it can fit on the sail and hold it steady. Bot brings the sail, and Milli extends her ponytails to measure how tall it is. She and Umi-Friend count the units in the sail's height, and find out that the sail is eight (8) units tall. In that case, the bamboo stick must also be eight (8) units. When Geo places the first bamboo stick next to Milli's extended ponytail, she finds out that its height is only six (6) units. But, when she measures the second stick, she sees that it is eight (8) units tall, meaning it will work! Milli then praises Umi-Friend for some great measuring skills. Then, the team attaches the mast and the sail onto the boat, and now Sonya's boat is good as new!

Polishing Power[]

The sailboat is fixed, but there's one more thing missing: Sonya's lucky gold star, which fell into the water. The team needs to find it to put it on top of the sailboat. To do that, they ask Umi-Friend to put on their Umi-Goggles so they can see underwater. Once they find the lucky gold star, Bot uses his extend-o arm to fish it out of the pond and puts it on top of the mast with his extend-o legs.

Now the boat is ready to go back to Sonya, but Milli knows something that can increase the size of Sonya's smile! She can match the sail's pattern with the pattern of her dress so it can truly represent her in the race. Geo highly agrees, and Bot loads up a recent picture of Sonya to see what color dress she wore to the park. When they see her picture, they learn that she wore a purple plaid dress, so Milli uses her Pattern Power to put a purple plaid pattern on the sail.

Then, the sailboat is polished and ready to be delivered to Sonya. The team pushes the sailboat back onto the water, and with a little help from Umi-Friend, they blow the boat over to Sonya at the starting line, completing the mission! They also get back in their speedboat and head over to Sonya so they can see her.

The Big Boat Race[]

Sonya's boat has finally been sent back to her, and she is thrilled! Not only is she back in the race, but she also has a sail that matches her dress. Milli praises Umi-Friend for all their hard work in fixing the boat and agrees that they make a wonderful team. Sonya thanks the team just in time, because the Big Boat Race is about to begin. Geo tells Milli as the cue notes play. All the boats line up at the starting line, and Milli and Geo are excited to see if Sonya will win.

A host counts down for three seconds to begin the race. Once the boats start moving, music plays in the background, and the team sings about the boat race. During the song, Team Umizoomi comments on the progress of Sonya's boat. It starts in third place, but quickly passes a pirate ship and a fire boat, taking the lead as it gets closer to the finish line. Sonya's boat crosses the finish line first, winning her the race and a big boat trophy!

Sonya thanks everyone for the race and all the fun she had. She and the host jump up and down and cheer, and the team pops out of the trophy, telling Umi-Friend how well they did today. They celebrate with the UmiShake and Crazy Shake before signing off, ending the episode.
